World Economic Roundtable & Reception With Former Mexican President Vicente Fox

In this private event, former Mexican President Vicente Fox will share his thoughts on his historic presidency, how it shaped his economic strategy, his ongoing efforts to fight poverty in Mexico, and his current quest to make his country a hub for technology.

About the Speaker‚Äč

Vicente Fox served as president of Mexico from 2000 to 2006. During his tenure, Mexico returned to macroeconomic stability through a mix of foreign debt reduction and budget management, which effectively brought down inflation and stabilized the currency. His ground breaking “Opportunities” strategy, providing support for very low-income women and their families, was widely praised by the World Bank and other international institutions, and has since been replicated in over 30 countries.

Since leaving office, the former president has remained an active player on the public scene. In 2000, he founded the Vicente Fox Study Center, Library, and Museum, also known as “Centro Fox,” a forum for the exploration of ideas and leadership strategies on questions of housing, education, and poverty alleviation, and home to the Fundacion Vamos Mexico (the Let’s Go Mexico Foundation) led by his wife, Marta Sahagun. The center hosts debates, symposiums, and a range of educational and cultural activities, while seeking to promote entrepreneurship through micro finance and a variety of social programs.

He is also the founder and former president of the Casa Cuna Amigo Daniel children’s home trust, and the former president of the Loyola Trust, a sponsor of the Iberoamericana University’s Leon campus and the Lux Institute.

As a member of the advisory board of the private equity firm EIM Capital, his latest efforts have been geared towards the dissemination of innovative policy solutions in the energy and technology sectors. Since 2000, he has worked jointly with members of government to promote the end of Mexico’s seven decade ban on foreign energy production control in an effort to foster investment.
