ACTIVITY 2005-2006 Below is a summary of media activity in 2005-2006. More recent activity can be found in our newsletter. Media activity for 2000-2001 and 2003 -2004 and 2004-2005 is also available. Extensive outreach efforts ensure a wide audience for the Institute's policy analysis. The numerous books and articles on national and international affairs written by the Institute's senior fellows and professional staff and the ideas presented in World Policy Journal are often quoted in coverage of American foreign policy issues. Journal Editor Karl Meyer and the senior fellows are regularly asked to share their views on a wide range of policy issues. Articles, op-eds, and book reviews published in a wide array of newspapers, magazines, and journals, and commentary featured in the electronic media provide broad exposure for WPI policy recommendations. Claudia Dreifus was the luncheon speaker at Columbia University’s Women in Science February 2006 meeting. Ian Bremmer was made a monthly columnist for Slate Magazine, December 2005. In 2005 Andrew Meier won an NEH fellowship, and was named the Mrs. Giles Whiting Foundation Fellow at the New York Public Library’s Dorothy & Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars & Writers. Both fellowships will support the research and writing of Meier’s new book, a biography of a 1920s American Communist turned Soviet secret agent, Isaiah Oggins. Kim Taipale was appointed Adjunct Professor of Law, New York Law School, 2005. Stephanie Elizondo Griest was named a Hodder Fellow by the Council of Humanities at Princeton University. She will spend the 2005-2006 academic year on their campus, writing a book about cultural identity and immigration in Mexico. Claudia Dreifus was awarded an honorary membership in the science research society, Sigma Xi. Each year, a journalist or political figure is named to this honorary position. Previous winners have included Vice President Al Gore, former Interior Secretary, Stuart Udall, and Father Theodore Hesburgh. She will be inducted into the society at a special reception at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit in November 2006. Patrick Radden Keefe started a fellowship at the Century Foundation, where he will be working full time on policy issues relating to security, secrecy, intelligence, and human rights, 2006.
