World Policy Journal, known for identifying new global writers and for its fresh, intelligent coverage of emerging international issues, convenes a diverse group of smart young performers for an unusual evening of international stand-up comedy. World Policy Journal is the flagship quarterly magazine of World Policy Institute, a think tank that seeks to inspire a global audience to seek constructive solutions to worldwide challenges. Together with Comix, New York City's premier comedy club, World Policy Journal brings a moment of much-needed levity to our world.

With oil in the Gulf, the Taliban going strong and the polar ice caps melting away, we wouldn't blame you for feeling like there's nothing to laugh about – until now.  You may not have thought policy wonks were funny, but World Policy Journal and Comix are about to prove you wrong.

On Monday September 13, Comedy Central's Christian Finnegan emcees "It's a Funny World", a special evening of international stand-up comedy featuring:

  • Ophira Eisenberg, one of New York Magazine's "Ten New Comedians that Funny People Find  Funny," and the funniest Canadian since SCTV
  • WPI Senior Fellow and Eurasia Group president Ian Bremmer, author of The End of the Free Market:  Who Wins the War Between States and Corporations? (See Ian's recent "Daily Show" appearance here.)
  • Robert George, editorial writer for the New York Post, conservative/libertarian blogger and pundit and moonlighting stand-up comedian, who was born in Trinidad and educated in the UK
  • Kevin Bleyer, multiple Emmy Award-winning writer for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and author of the forthcoming book Me the People:  An Order to Form a More Perfect Union, who reported from Iraq as part of The Daily Show's "Operation: Silent Thunder."

Monday, September 13 at COMIX (14th Street, just east of Ninth Ave.)
Show:  7pm to 8:30
Admission is complimentary for the media.
Note: all shows at Comix have a two-drink minimum-  non-alcoholic beverages count!  To register, email Kate Maloff at maloff@worldpolicy.org.
